Connect GitHub Copilot CLI to your task board
GitHub's agent in the terminal, with a board.
To connect GitHub Copilot CLI to a task board, add Weft — a task board with an MCP server — to GitHub Copilot CLI and sign in once. It takes about three minutes and is free for 50 tasks. After that, GitHub Copilot CLI creates, moves and finishes tasks on your board when you ask.
Weft is the AI task manager for solo founders and small teams.
GitHub's coding agent for the shell. Point it at Weft and the work it does between prompts lands somewhere you can audit later — claimed, reported, finished with receipts.
GitHub Copilot CLI MCP setup
GitHub Copilot CLI MCP docs ↗Leave the headers field empty: Copilot registers itself with Weft over OAuth and keeps the token. The saved config lands in ~/.copilot/mcp-config.json, where the server reads {"type":"http","url":"…","tools":["*"]} — editing that file directly works too.

Type `/mcp` in the same session — weft should list its tools. Ask: "what's in my Backlog?" and finish the browser sign-in when it opens.

- “Start the top task in Todo and report progress as you go.”
- “Add a task: "rotate the staging credentials", priority high.”
- “What's in the active sprint?”
- “Finish the task you just did and attach what you changed.”

In GitHub Copilot CLI itself, not in a file. Start here: Run `copilot` in any project, then type `/mcp add`.
Is Weft free to use with GitHub Copilot CLI?
Yes, for up to 50 tasks, with no credit card. Pro removes the limit.
What can GitHub Copilot CLI do on my Weft board?
Create, update, move and complete tasks, plan and run sprints, sort work into projects and search across all of it: 32 MCP tools in all.
