Connect Amazon Q Developer CLI to your task board

AWS's terminal agent, on your board.

To connect Amazon Q Developer CLI to a task board, add Weft — a task board with an MCP server — to Amazon Q Developer CLI and sign in once. It takes about three minutes and is free for 50 tasks. After that, Amazon Q Developer CLI creates, moves and finishes tasks on your board when you ask.

Weft is the AI task manager for solo founders and small teams.

AWS's coding agent for the shell. It reads the repo and runs commands; Weft holds what the terminal forgets — the tasks, the sprint, and the work waiting on a human.

Amazon Q Developer CLI MCP setup

Amazon Q Developer CLI MCP docs ↗

The same endpoint Kiro uses, and the same OAuth: no client ID to fill in. Global config is ~/.aws/amazonq/mcp.json; a per-project .amazonq/mcp.json overrides it.

  1. 01

    Create a free Weft account.

    Weft is free for 50 tasks. Pro from $5/seat/month billed yearly.

  2. 02

    Add Weft to your Amazon Q Developer CLI config.

    ~/.aws/amazonq/mcp.json
    {
      "mcpServers": {
        "weft": {
          "type": "http",
          "url": "https://letsweft.com/api/mcp"
        }
      }
    }
    MCP endpoint
    https://letsweft.com/api/mcp
  3. 03

    Complete the OAuth popup.

    On first use, Amazon Q Developer CLI opens a browser window so you can authorize with your Weft account. Sign in once — the client remembers you after that.

  4. 04

    Verify it works.

    Start `q chat` and run `/mcp`. Weft shows as needing authentication and Q prints a URL — open it, approve, and leave the session running. Then ask: "what's on my board?".

Try these prompts

Everything below works once you’re connected — Amazon Q Developer CLI picks the right Weft tool on its own.

  • “What's on my board right now?”
  • “File a task for every TODO you just left in the code.”
  • “Start the top task in Todo and report progress as you go.”
  • “What finished work is waiting for my review?”
